The devastating earthquake on 25 April destroyed 65 houses and killed five children in Arubote Majhi village of Melamchi, SIndhupalchowk district. Life has yet to return to normal in the village. But Thai Nepali Association has given them some hope in their difficult times. The association has said it would develop the village as a tourist spot. On the occasion, Khatiwada said that survey of the quake-hit families in Sindhpalchowk district will be completed by mid-April and the amount for the reconstruction of the houses will be doled out by identifying real quake-victims. A total of Rs 12 million was spent to construct the houses in the Majhi village, according to vice-chairman of Association Kumar Karki. Likewise, executive chief of Melamchi Municipality, Purna Prasad Dulal said that the Integrated Sample Majhi Settlement was the first quake-resistant residential area in the municipality.
