ISLAMIC State (ISIS) was able to carry out the horrific bloodbath in Paris because French spies did not realise that Europe's most wanted jihadi had a cousin living in the city, it was claimed today.France's security services were accused of a "complete failure" after apparently overlooking the family link to ISIS madman Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who orchestrated the attack in which 130 people died.
Shockingly spies only learnt that learnt that his cousin Hasna Aït Boulahcen was living in their capital after the atrocity took place - even though they had tapped her phone over drug smuggling claims. Both 26-year-old Boulahcen and Abaaoud, 27, were killed during a siege at a flat in St Denis from which he is believed to have masterminded the bloody terror attack.
The shocking claims will heap yet more pressure on France's beleaguered secret service, which has been dogged by questions over its failure to stop the atrocity.
In particular critics have questioned how Abaaoud, who was on a most wanted list because of his high ranking role within ISIS, was seemingly able to travel between Belgium, France and Syria at will.
